Germany is a country of stunning natural beauty and the experiences that can be had by tourists can prove spectacular, as well as the activities locals enjoy partaking in – and yes, that includes a fair few beer festivals. The Eastern side of the country is still getting used to an open world, but is no less worth visiting than the West. The capital city Berlin is popular with both foreign and domestic tourists, offering one of the best examples of the diversity between the East and West. Those visiting the West are likely to be taken aback by just how forward thinking the city is, with an Americanised standpoint and some wonderful architecture to see, including the recently renovated Reichstag German Parliament building – this is a stark contrast to some areas in the East of the city, where they appear to have been untouched since the 1920s. It’s an interesting contrast and one that shows just how different life was on each side of the wall. Speaking of the Berlin Wall, there are pieces scattered through the city, from individuals who acquired pieces to the Berlin Wall Museum, located on the former and notorious Checkpoint Charlie. Other stark reminders of Germany’s past come in the shape of many other museums and historical points, including the 2001-opened Jewish Museum, a very moving experience. Those visiting to experience Berlin’s theatre and nightlife culture will not be disappointed and there are many popular spots through both the Eastern and Western sides of the city, with a real party culture vibe felt through the city and, indeed, the country as a whole. Elsewhere in Germany are attractions such as the major wine growing region of the Neckar Valley, Einstein’s birthplace and home of the world’s largest cathedral spire in Ulm, the Rhine, the Black Forest, the Bavarian Alps for the skiers out there, the multitude of health spas and resorts littering the country, the cities of Munich, Stuttgart and Nuremberg (amongst many, many others) – there is so much art, culture and natural beauty in Germany it’s impossible to list it all. It is a country that is impossible to take in in one holiday and is certainly difficult to take in even in a lifetime. The people are friendly, the beer is good, the food is scrumptious and the country is beautiful – Germany is a real jewel in Europe’s crown
